With reference to your letter No.3033 of the 22nd April, I am directed to transmit a statement which clearly sets out the basis on which this Government is prepared to agree to the division of joint sectional fares between the British and Chinese Sections of the Canton-Kowloon Railway.

2.

The division of the minimum charges has been

agreed to verbally only, and should be confirmed in writing. Then the Administration of the Chinese Section have accepted the proposals the General Manager will prepare a division table and submit it for signature.

3.

I am to state that this division of sectional fares

is only agreed to on the understanding that the whole question may be brought up again for consideration on revision of the

Working agreement.
